Melksham Neighbourhood Plan Latest News

Thank you for getting involved in the community events and survey, your input has been hugely valuable.

Over the past few months we've been asking the people in Melksham and Melksham Without to come to drop-in events and fill in a survey about future housing growth in the area. We were delighted to get a great response to both the events and the survey, with over 1,200 individual comments made.

Chairman of the Neighbourhood Plan Steering Group, Richard Wood said, "It is fantastic that so many people got involved in this engagement, as the Neighbourhood Plan must express the views of the local people and how they see their area developing in future."

People who gave their views raised a wide range of issues in relation to new development, most commonly around the community and transport infrastructure needed to support an increase in residents. However, almost half (47% of those who answered) said that if quantity, location and community benefits could be locally defined (through the Neighbourhood Plan), they would support some limited housing growth in Melksham.

The full report from the Housing Consultation, which sets out all the comments and analyses the data gathered is on the Neighbourhood Plan website [i.e. here]

Neighbourhood Planning is a government initiative to involve local people in land use planning, and it provides an opportunity for local people to have their say on future development in the area. When it is complete will become part of the documents which govern planning in the area; because of this, it is critical local people make their voice heard.

A Neighbourhood Plan covers housing, transport, shopping, working, environment and health / leisure for the communities of Melksham and Melksham Without.

Further information on the Neighbourhood Plan is available from Melksham Town Council (01225 704187) or Melksham Without Parish Council (01225 705700)
